Bring out the boxes because we’re moving this weekend! Nothing, and I mean nothing, excites me more than the thought of setting up nest in a brand-new place with my trusty roommate!
We’d been living in the suburbs at my family’s home ever since our wedding in June. Though economical, our only space had been my shoebox-sized bedroom which we share with our cat. It became more cramped once our work began piling in. N also recently accepted a new appointment at an agency located in KL’s golden triangle and the commute could wear anyone down. As much as we’d like to save money for our future plans, we felt that it’s a necessity to move closer to N’s workplace in the city. And also to, ahem, acquire something bigger than an 80-square-foot bedroom!
We managed to take only one day off our busy schedule to do some serious house hunting. Having lived in three different apartments post-college, I was hardened to the whims of finding a new place in an expensive, fiercely-competitive city. With our tiny budget, we decided that a studio rental would do for now and found less choices as the day wore to an end. Finally, we found a teeny-tiny, open plan apartment (380-square-feet!) that suits our budget. Despite its size, the apartment remains bright and airy with a built-in kitchen (N was sold by the furnace) and a bathtub (did I mention my weakness for bubble baths?). The building overlooks a dense, forested hill and is a five-minute drive from our favorite hang. I used to live here too for three years so the neighborhood remains familiar. We’re thrilled to build our place from scratch and begin our life in a tiny apartment. It’ll be one place to call our own and that’s just the beauty of it.
