Charlie is the funny guy in our household. The slight mechanic whirring of the printer, for one, excites him. He’ll wait for the right moment, his tail swishing left and right as N gathers some colored papers for printing. Once the printer does its job, Charlie will spring onto the freshly-printed paper and rip them to shreds. He knows his antic gets on our nerves but I guess he loves the attention, even if it comes with a short ‘detention’ in the bathroom or a no-treat-for-one-day policy.
Just watching him watching the papers getting printed on gives me joy sometimes. I find it amusing to see how focused Charlie can be on the most mundane things like paper or trying to catch the impossible. He’s made attempts to snag the pigeons right outside our window and ends up knocking himself on the glass all the time. The little guy never learns his lesson so he continues watching the birds and meowing in all eagerness. When I observe him watching anything that gets his attention, I always wonder what he must be thinking. Does he daydream about having those birds next to his kibbles? Does he see birds on those papers? Does he think he can fly?
Judging from the enthusiasm in his eyes, Charlie sees the world as one big adventure that needs to be pounced on, even when that world of his is only a tiny apartment. It’s so easy being entertained when you’re a cat. Felines can be the silliest creatures after all. Yet in all that senselessness, there’s a sweet ounce of inspiration on how to tackle life with spontaneity at times. When there’s a chance, go for it…glass or no glass.
