Preparing An All-Red Brunch

20141105
Have you ever wondered what it’d be like to eat food that are of the same color in one meal? Call me strange but I’ve always had that curiosity. So that one late morning, I thought why not put all that curiosity to rest and experiment with the food? There were some juicy, deep-red tomatoes and shriveled, week-old strawberries in the fridge. It took a little imagination to whip up something that’s neither too heavy for lunch nor too light for breakfast— all with one color in mind. Check out this all-red recipe as follow, savor them up and enjoy.
Baked Tomatoes with Parmesan Crumbs and Balsamic Sauce
What You Need
4 fat tomatoes / ½ teaspoon salt / a tiny bowl of bread crumbs / 3 tablespoons of shredded parmesan cheese / a drizzle of olive oil / ½ coffee cup of balsamic vinegar / 2 tablespoons light brown sugar / 2 tablespoons water
How To Make
Preheat the oven to 204 °C (equivalent to 400 °F). Cut the tomatoes in half and place them side up in a single layer on a baking dish. Sprinkle the tomatoes with salt. In a small bowl, mix in the bread crumbs with parmesan and olive oil. Sprinkle this mixture liberally over each tomato. Bake the tomatoes until the parmesan crumbs begin to brown in about 20 minutes.
To make the sauce, combine balsamic vinegar, brown sugar and water in a skillet. Bring to boil over high heat. Leave the sauce to heat through for about 3 minutes until it becomes syrupy and thick. Drizzle over baked tomatoes. Garnish with fresh parsley.
Strawberry Nutella Sandwich
What You Need
Heaps of strawberries / 4 slices of whole-grain bread / 1 jar of Nutella
How To Make
This one is a no-brainer. Just spread Nutella evenly on all the bread slices, layer them with some chopped-up strawberries and call it a day.
My suggestion? Try watermelon juice, or if you have some tomatoes left, blend them up for some healthy, sour pick-me-up in the morning. Top this one with celery.
Whipping up color-coordinated, OCD-inducing brunch proved to be exciting for me. It propels you to treat the kitchen like an art studio. Your utensils are your brushes, and the ingredients— with all those colors in the same hue— are your palette. You may try switching things up— have a blue breakfast (blueberry pancake or muesli, anybody?), or purple (red cabbage and berry smoothie). Make that rainbow connection happen!
