Candle Lighting at Home

20150316
The thought of lighting candles at home is slightly foreign for the two of us. First, there’s this silly fear of setting up our apartment on fire by accident. Second, we feel that candles just make the house warmer than it needs to be in this tropical climate. And third, we only grew up lighting the wicks off oil lamps during Eid outside of our home. We never really got around to doing it despite having bought a number of scented and tea light candles from IKEA when we first moved in. Talk about taking those blocks of wax for granted.
But then one night, as both N and I were working on our own freelance projects at home, we thought it’d be a good idea to do without lights and burn a few candles instead. Working after office hours could be stressful even when done within the comforts of our home. We wanted to calm our nerves while getting a few things done and we finally gave those candles a try.
Who would’ve thought that you could relax while you work? The candles created a calming ambiance that take the tiredness away and roused us just enough to continue with our projects. They perked our senses right away. Our apartment also looked extremely cozy as the candles were flickering in the dark. And that’s always a bonus.
